Shelley Peer

	Peer Gynt Adapted and translated from the original by Ibsen, pictures by John Shelley (Hyoronsha, Tokyo 1991). Adaptation: Hiroshi Kawasaki
	A shortened picture book re-telling of Ibsen's tale, to coincide with the release of a CD of Edvard Grieg's music, this was the first picture-book I was commissioned to illustrate for a Japanese publisher. I was encouraged to take a classical approach to the story that differed significantly from my previous children's book work in the UK.
