European Tour 2001

Our European Tour consisted of Maki (the missus) and yours truely travelling around Europe for a month, mostly by train, sketch in hand. Starting in the UK in September (just prior to 11/9), our itinary took us through France - (Paris, Lyon, Avignon and Marseille) - Italy (Firenze & Milano) and finally Amsterdam before returning to Tokyo in October.
I began writing the Journal with sketches while we were in Avignon, but as the days wore on it grew into a fully illustrated blow-by-blow account of our travels, eventually stretching to 102 pages, most of it scribbled in cafe's and on trains when I could grab a few minutes. The images are not so much sketches from life (I carried a quality sketchbook for that kind of serious stuff), more an illustrated diary, resulting in something I'll treasure far more than any amount of snapshot photos. Here are a few choice snippets.
